1. Reflect on the positives
Whether it is a good or a bad time in your life, it is important to take a few minutes to look for the positives. During the good times, looking for the positives helps heighten the enjoyment and provide perspective on how good life is. Finding the positives in the bad times helps bring perspective that not everything is bad. During bad times, there are often many positives, but we get caught up in the negatives and forget to remember the positives we still have.
2. Will it matter tomorrow, next week, next month or next year
When things happen in life they can feel like the end of the world, overpowering emotions and feelings. It’s difficult at those times, but taking a few minutes to think about if it will matter tomorrow, next month or even next year can bring some much needed perspective. The old saying about not crying over spilt milk is a good example of this. As long as you clean the spilt milk up, it won’t matter tomorrow, next week or next year.
3. Enjoy the moment
So much time is spent planning events that sometimes the events come around and the focus has already moved on to the next event. Take the time to enjoy the moment, this includes leaving social media along for a few moment. Many events are missed through being distracted by Facebook, Twitter and all the other social media, sharing moments and forgetting to enjoy them.
4. Make the most of what you have
Some people have more and some have less, the key is to making the most of what you have. There is always something you want more of or wish could do, but by focusing on what you have will make life more enjoyable.
5. Don’t compare your life to others….
From being born the same you go on to live your own life, which differs from everyone else’s. Society seems to have a tendency to encourage us to compare ourselves against others, this comparison tends to highlight and focus on the differences. This often leads to jealousy and envy. You are born the same and will die the same as everyone else, comparing ourselves to others provides no true happiness – happiness comes from friendships, love and laughter.
Remember – if you don’t like something – change it, you have control of your life!
